Know which machine you are on

The first segment on the row under the composer's keys is this machine's name. Tap it and the toast shows the name and its public URL. In the VCode app on app.v-code.dev it names the box of the tab in front.

Why you would use it

You run VCode on more than one box — a desktop and a file server — and both are bookmarked on the same phone behind the same login page. The two look identical until something names the machine.

How to use it

Look at the left end of the status bar (#statusbar), above the composer. On a wide window it is the top row of the composer instead (#composer-facts). The first segment (.seg.node) is the name.
Tap it. A toast shows <name> · <url> when a public URL is configured, and just the name when it is not.
In the app, with tabs from several boxes, switch tabs and the segment follows: it shows the name the box has on your v-code.dev account. In a tab whose box refused this device, the tap opens that box's screen instead of the toast: its pair screen, key screen or version screen (work-on-several-boxes).

What you see

The name as the operator set it in VCODE_NAME, or the machine's hostname when that is unset.
A long name is cut with an ellipsis rather than pushing the rest of the bar off screen.
No segment at all if the box did not answer with its name. The app carries on without it.

Set them in ~/.config/v-code/env — see environment-variables — and restart the unit.

Limits and known gaps

There is no server switcher on a box's own page. VCODE_PEERS is parsed, validated and returned by the API, but the UI draws only this machine's name. Moving to a sibling means opening its URL yourself, or pairing both boxes with the app, where their tabs share one strip.
The toast is the only place the URL appears; it is not a link.
A malformed VCODE_PEERS entry fails the boot rather than disappearing quietly: each entry must be name|url, the name must be non-empty, and the URL must be http(s)://… or empty.
The name is read once per load with a 5-second timeout. A machine renamed while the app is open keeps the old name until the page reloads.
